The Research Associate is responsible for active participation in team-based BARDA-sponsored R&D for a novel instrument and chemistry for a patented system for spray drying blood plasma into a powdered form for ready use by first responders and OR’s by collecting, verifying, recording, and compiling data and information along with establishing and documenting laboratory procedures to support Velico’s Spray Dried Plasma instrument and disposable development.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Evaluate FrontlineODP by running coagulation and ELISA-based assays
  • Maintenance and upkeep of the Science lab
  • Perform analytical instrument calibrations, quality control, and preventative maintenance
  • Manage laboratory logistics including ordering and inventory of supplies
  • Ensuring product reliability, manufacturability, serviceability, safety, and quality
  • Ensuring product compliance with Quality Systems Regulations
  • Development and documentation of testing procedures and reports

Requirements:

  • 1+ years of laboratory experience in pharmaceutical, biotech, or medical device
  • Bachelor’s Degree (minimum) in Applied Science (biology, chemistry, biochemistry, biotech, chemical engineering, etc)
  • Expertise in developing, performing and interpreting laboratory device-based testing and analysis
  • Familiarity with automated chemistry laboratory equipment such as coagulation analyzers (e.g., Siemens, Instrument Laboratory), TEG, CAT etc. preferred
  • Experience working in a regulated Quality System environment
  • Familiar with OSHA’s Bloodborne Pathogens Standard
  • Good communication skills; oral, written and presentation
  • Commitment to achieving objectives, results driven and adept at resolving competing priorities

  • Team oriented, adept at managing creative conflict
  • Strong work ethic; comfortable in a fast-paced, entrepreneurial company environment
  • Proficient in Microsoft Word and Excel
